About the Park

San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park seeks to commemorate both the Kumeyaay people who have lived on this land since time immemorial and the soldiers who fought here on December 6, 1846, during the Mexican American War. The 50-acre park was originally set aside not as a monument to war, but as a place of reflection of the human ideals, actions, and passions that can drive nations to bloodshed.

In recognition of the Kumeyaay ancestral land this park sits on, California State Parks is working closely with the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians to incorporate the robust history, culture, and traditional ecological knowledge of the Kumeyaay people into the park’s visitor center, trails, and programs
